SYRAH, 14.50%, Drinking 2020-2030“This is a really fun expression of Syrah, and above everything else, you absolutely taste the varietal character of the grape. The 2019 Le Pupille spent an extra year in bottle before its release because the winery team didn't think it was ready yet. This vintage naturally carries extra concentration. That's a total of five years, more or less, meaning that the 2019 vintage is hitting market two years after the 2018. It shows a deliciously smooth and rich character with green pepperiness, Mediterranean herb and delicate caper flower. The floral intensity of the wine grows with time in the glass. The wine was first produced in 2015, and the winemaking process today sees six months in Tuscan clay pots ("orci") with submerged cap. I love the richness, the wine's unique personality and those spicy notes of game and barbecue that you get on the end. Great job. Only 3,758 bottles were made.”

Elisabetta Geppetti, the founder of Fattoria Le Pupille, is a woman of exceptional energy and vision. She was only 20 years old when she first took the reins at her family's property in Southern Tuscany in the 1980s. The winery is synonymous with Morellino di Scansano and Elisabetta has been instrumental in placing this appellation on the map of wine lovers, producing excellent value Sangiovese and gaining global fame with the area's first Super Tuscan, Saffredi. Her children Clara and Ettore are now running the winery, and this second generation has created two incredible, innovative wines to add to this impressive range: Le Pupille, an amphora-aged Syrah, and Piemme, a unique Petit Manseng.
