Winemaker Oscar Alegre and his wife Eva Valgañon are at the forefront of a revolution in Spain. They are championing a return to Rioja’s ancient traditions, making wine as it was before Phylloxera and French influence at the end of the 19th century. Alegre Valgañon make gorgeous, sculpted Rioja from the cool north-west of the region, using exceptional sites with old vines - often field blends - and minimal oak influence.  All the wines are made outside of the Crianza-Reserva-Gran Reserva ageing system, aiming to highlight these local styles and exceptional individual sites. This winery has captured something truly special in these wines, and we are delighted to bring them to the UK market.
