Scores

(fermented and aged in 400-liter French oak barrels, 25% new): Pale yellow-gold. Aromas of white plum, white peach and cumin, plus hints of flowers and honey. Dense, rich and sweet (but just 1.8 g/l r.s.), offering a silky texture with well-integrated energy. Spicy stone fruit, nutty oak and wild herb flavors lead to a chewy, long finish. Nicely saline, very dry wine with concentration and personality.

Below Badenhorst's property. Vines are 30 to 40 years old.  The grapes were whole bunch pressed with no sulphur added and barrel fermented for 14 days. Maturation took place in 400-litre 25% new French barrels for 10 months. No bâtonnage or malolactic fermentation. Dense, savoury, meaty fruit with real confidence. Nothing pretty and honeyed about this – it’s a mensch! Firm spine. Hint of pine even. Really interesting.
17/20 Points, Jancis Robinson
