As a long-time champion of the ‘lieu-dit’, Jean-Marc thought long and hard about this wine but his conclusion that in this instance a blend is better than the sum of its parts is spot on. The heart of the wine comes from the new holding of Clos de la Baronne in the middle of the village, which gives rich, broad Meursault form. The addition of 10% from Les Gruyaches and 25% from Les Crotots however lifts the wine considerably, inserting energy, tension and vibrancy. The end result is both classically Meursault and classically Roulot: intensity of fruit and fragrance with mid-palate density but with the vital tension and direction for which the Domaine is so respected.
