Tasting Notes

It dominates the nose with sweet cherries, forest floor and a smoky depth that is more prevalent with this cru than the others in his distinguished stable of single vineyards. The palate exhibits sweet fruit and spice with layers of texture beginning to exhibit luxurious fig notes that will start to come to the fore with age. Like many Fenocchio wines, this exhibits firm, grainy tannins giving the wine great structure but asking the drinker to be patient. Ripe fruit dominates the finish making Bussia perhaps the most approachable of the crus at this stage, however we suggest patience to allow this precocious wine to develop into a superstar.

ProducerGiacomo Fenocchio

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father Giacomo at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernist and traditionalists in Barolo was at its most acute. He decided to opt for a third approach, something many refer to as radical traditionalism. His wines are celebrated for being impressively approachable in youth while getting even better with age. Claudio represents the 5th generation of the Fenocchio family crafting elegant, true Barolos that capture the soul of his vineyards. Far from resting on his laurels though, he continues to push boundaries of quality and innovation while respecting his family legacy.
