Scores

Sweet and juicy, and showing proper development in that earthy spectrum. Floral too ? really showboating Barolo?s potential. The tannins are already approachable too, though they need either lots of hearty food or another few years in bottle, preferably. Score: 18.5/20 Richard Hemming (JancisRobinson.com)

Tasting Notes

The Bussia Riserva 2008 showcases the beauty of developing Barolo. Aged for longer in cask and bottle, this is a limited production Riserva only made in the best years. The outcome? A Barolo that goes further down the savoury, earthy spectrum than the younger Crus. Still packed with plenty of concentrated fruit and delicate perfume but with more supple tannins and a hint of gaminess. This is serious Barolo and we love it.

ProducerGiacomo Fenocchio

When Claudio Fenocchio succeeded his father Giacomo at the helm of the family business in 1989, the debate between modernist and traditionalists in Barolo was at its most acute. He decided to opt for a third approach, something many refer to as radical traditionalism. His wines are celebrated for being impressively approachable in youth while getting even better with age. Claudio represents the 5th generation of the Fenocchio family crafting elegant, true Barolos that capture the soul of his vineyards. Far from resting on his laurels though, he continues to push boundaries of quality and innovation while respecting his family legacy.
