This is classy on the nose with subtle currant, sweet tobacco, cigar box and dried flowers. Cassis too. Full body, with refined tannins and a solid core of fruit. Polished and very pretty. Long and delicious already. But you have to wait on this. It has so much more to give. Try after 2015. Score: 93 points James Suckling

Tasting Notes

The 2007 is an incredibly refined and harmonious wine. The aromas are multi-layered and enveloping with notes of sweet ripe red berries, cassis and dried summer fruits intermingled with herbs and balsamic notes. Magnificent, complex flavours with ripe, sweet fruits and a mineral character on the finish are supported by structured but very fine tannins. Although a powerful wine, the overall impression is one of incredible elegance and sophistication. This is a serious Sassicaia which needs ten or more years before drinking but will continue to develop for twenty years or more.

ProducerTenuta San Guido

Quietly, elegantly and almost involuntarily, the Incisa della Rocchetta family released the wine that would revolutionise the Italian wine scene creating a totally new genre: the Super-Tuscan. Tenuta San Guido is now a legendary estate and was first planted in the 1940s by the Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who noted the similarity between Bolgheri’s terroir and that of the Graves. When, in 1968, Sassicaia was finally commercially released, it took the fine wine world by storm. Cementing its iconic status, in 1994 it was granted its own appellation – Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC.
