" Quite a show stopper..."
Jancis Robinson
Château Pape Clément boasts revered neighbours such as the likes of Château Haut-Brion and you can be sure it offers all the fine character of a classic Pessac-Léognan.
Extensive replanting has been carried out since 1990 and these vines now produce striking fruit with polish and clarity evident in the wine. Careful winemaking and attention to detail in the cellar delivers wines full of opulence and silkiness. Each parcel is handpicked and de-stemmed separately by no fewer than 200 pickers with no expense spared. The first estate in Bordeaux to destem the entire crop by hand no less!
Antonio Galloni says that ‘This is one of the best recent vintages of Pape Clément I have tasted' and we are inclined to agree! This has captured the imagination – and taste buds – of consumers and tasters alike.
2015 CHÂTEAU PAPE CLÉMENT
£313 Per 6 Bottles IB | £320 Per 12 Halves IB | £320 Per 3 Magnums IB | £640 per 6 magnums IB
The 2015 Pape Clément Rouge is gorgeously elegant and smooth with a bright bouquet of red berry fruits and cassis mingled with exotic notes of cedar spice. On the palate, sumptuous dark fruit flavours, with a hint of white chocolate and truffles, are held in check by refreshing acidity and seamless tannins which lead to a long finish. This wine has the capacity to age for twenty five years or more if the temptation to drink it younger can be resisted. Drink from 2022 – 2040. 17/20, ARMIT WINES
Shows amazing depth of fruit with fabulous polish and length. Electric acidity. Full body, very integrated and refined tannins. Phenolic finesse shows here. Great finish. It lasts for minutes. Best young Pape Clément I have tasted. Grows in the e glass.97-98/100, JAMES SUCKLING
2015 Pape Clement is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. It was cropped at 40 hl/ha between 25 September and 15 October with berry by berry destemming. It has a drop-dead gorgeous bouquet that continues the ever greater finesse that has been imparted into this Pape-Clément in recent years. It is extremely precise, almost crystalline. The palate is underpinned by fine tannin, pitch-perfect acidity, a sense of cohesion and harmony that is outstanding. There is not a hair out of place on this barrel sample and it will doubtless evolve into one of the best wines this state has produced since the 14th century, when Bertrand de Goth was planting its first vines. This comes highly recommended - a Pape-Clément that will reward those who can resist temptation and cellar this wine for 10+ years. Tasted on four separate occasions. 95-97/100, NEAL MARTIN
