During these last heady days of summer, when so many of us are beginning our holidays, we're indulging in an array of beautiful rosés. Produced using well-loved international varietals as well as lesser known grapes waiting to be discovered, there's something to tempt every palate. These wines are fresh, fragrant, ideal partners for lighter fare, and we've uncovered several rosés ripe for picking!
This luscious, pink hibiscus coloured wine is produced in the Veneto region of northeast Italy. Produced from 100% Corvina grapes, Rose del Drago showcases the indigenous varietal to maximum effect. Floral aromas—predominantly rose—are followed by red raspberry and citrus flavours with lively acidity. Pair with a simple and deeply satisfying salad of prosciutto and melon with mint for an indelible taste of summer.
Sancerre Rosé 2014, Fernand Girard
Fernand Girard is a family-owned winery located in the charmingly bijou village of Chaudoux within the Loire Valley. Known for producing exemplary Sancerre, this 100% Pinot Noir rosé is no exception. A pale pink colour with delicate mineral and peach aromas followed by redcurrant and soft raspberry on the palate, this wine offers a long and elegant finish. Enjoy with seared scallops, seabass, or lightly dressed salads as all partner beautifully with this balanced offering from one of the Loire’s finest producers.
Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé 2014, Mulderbosch
Delivering wonderfully vibrant flavours, Mulderbosch Cabernet Sauvignon Rosé is as unique as its winery. This producer –though nestled in the hills of Stellenbosch, South Africa—has strong ties to Napa. That cultural exchange culminates in an extraordinary depth of wine-making knowledge and experience, and is clearly on show in this well-crafted, food friendly rosé. The wine is a delicate pink with subtle salmon hues and a burst of ripe grapefruit aromas. Clean mineral notes and juicy strawberries follow on the palate with a wonderfully extended finish. Enjoy with a lobster roll for the ultimate indulgence.
